G&S Dye carries a wide variety of scarves in different weights, fabrics and sizes for painting or dyeing. All scarves are handrolled finished and 100% natural grade 'A' silk.
Pongee Silk: An even weave light weight silk ideal for salt effects or blending of colours. The thinner weight flows nicely and airy. Works well with Gutta/Resist but not recommended if you are painting detailed works. The ideal weight for microwave scarf dyeing. Works well with dyes (Procion H) and silk paint (Liquid Colours)
Habotai Silk: The most popular weight. An even weave silk that is still light enough but durable. Perfect weight for using Gutta/Resist as the silk will not be as easy to snag and damage the efforts to paint. Works well with dyes and paints.
Twill Silk: Noticeably a step up in weight over Habotai Silk, the weave has a pattern of diagonal parallel ribs. Ideally for shawls, men's scarves or wraps. Heavier so more care must be taken when applying Gutta/Resist to assure penetration. Works best with dyes only.
Crepe Silk: A slightly crinkled textured silk that's have a lovely drape and feel. The added weight of the silk makes it a treat to wear. The weight also allows more dye to be absorbed creating a more saturated colour. Works best with dyes only.
Satin Silk: Similar to Crepe on one side, the other side is a satin or shiny finish. The colours really pop. Works well with dyes only.
Chiffon Silk: A sheer and very thin silk. Very light and flowing. Unstructured. Suited for painting free flowing and blended colours. You can Gutta/Resist but not an ideal fabric. Can be used with silk paints but recommended to use dyes.
