Batik and Shibori table
runner, 2004
- 100% cotton (250g
weight)
- Indigo-dyed, pieced
- 9" x 55"
 |
Batik
and three types of shibori were used to create this piece.
Arashi shibori (pole wrapping) was used for the centre panel.
The batiked fish at each end of the centre panel are blowing
bubbles created using the ne-maki shibori (thread-resist around
glass beads) technique. The narrow bands edging the runner
at each end were created using machine-stitched mokumi shibori
(woodgrain).
The piece is done on a 250gm cotton (drapery weight) and dyed
with pre-reduced indigo. The pole wrapping was dipped four
times due to the thickness and tightness of the cotton weave.
The batik and wood grain shibori pieces were dipped three
times to get a nice even, rich blue colour. All pieces were
dyed separately and then stitched together.
